Body Found in Smithville Park in Eastampton


Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced that a death investigation was initiated this weekend after a man’s body was found early Saturday evening in Smithville Park in Eastampton Township.

The body was found by a man who was hiking in a wooded area of the park. He notified the Eastampton Township Police Department after making the discovery.

The investigation is ongoing. The identity of the decedent, as well as the cause and manner of death, have not yet been determined. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed today by Burlington County Medical Examiner Dr. Ian Hood.

Agencies involved in the investigation include the BCPO, the Eastampton Township Police Department, the Burlington County Office of Emergency Management, Burlington County Central Communications, the Burlington County Department of Information Technology – GIS Section, Burlington County Park Rangers, and Central Jersey K-9 Search and Rescue.
