Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw and Mount Holly Township Police Chief Clifford C. Spencer announced that a teenager has been charged with fatally shooting a 25-year-old man last month in Mount Holly’s Mill Dam Park.
The name of the defendant, a 14-year-old male, cannot be released because he is a juvenile. He has been charged with Murder (First Degree), Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (Second Degree) and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Second Degree).
He was taken into custody this afternoon at the Burlington County Courts Facility in Mount Holly. He will be lodged in Ocean County pending a hearing in Superior Court.
The investigation began September 22 at approximately 5:45 p.m. when officers from the Mount Holly Township Police Department were called to an area near the intersection of Wall Street and Pine Street for a possible shooting.
The investigation revealed that Andre Ross, 25, of Pine Street in Mount Holly, had been shot in the back and died at the scene. An autopsy performed by Burlington County Medical Examiner Dr. Ian Hood determined that Ross died of a single gunshot wound.
The investigation was conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office and the Mount Holly Township Police Department, with assistance from the New Jersey State Police and the Burlington County Sheriff’s Office. The lead investigators are BCPO Detective Arek Arargil, BCPO Detective Kevin Smith and MHTPD Detective Sergeant Nicholas Dell-Priscoli.
All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
