Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw and Medford Township Police Department Officer-in-Charge Captain William Dunleavy announced that a 45-year-old Burlington City man employed at a Medford Township care facility that provides services to adults with disabilities has been charged with abusing a patient under his care.
Fuller P. Williams, of Jones Avenue, was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Disabled Adult (Third Degree) and Simple Assault (Disorderly Persons Offense). He was taken into custody July 29 and later released following an appearance in Superior Court in Mount Holly. The case will now be prepared for presentation to a grand jury for possible indictment.
The investigation began earlier this summer after officers from the Medford Township Police Department were called to the Friends of Cyrus Adult Day Services Program in the first block of White Birch Trail for a report of suspected abuse to a resident.
The investigation determined that Williams beat the autistic, adult male victim with a thin cord, causing multiple injuries and welts to his back and buttocks. The injuries were discovered by other staff members of the facility, who contacted law enforcement authorities to report the abuse.
The investigation was conducted by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the Medford Township Police Department with assistance from the City of Burlington Police Department. The lead investigators were BCPO Detective Giancarlo Lewis and MTPD Detective Dylan Juengert. Williams will be prosecuted by attorneys from the BCPO Special Victims Unit.
Defendants are considered innocent unless and until found guilty in a court of law.
