Burlington County Landfill Worker Charged with Theft

Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Burlington County Sheriff Jean E. Stanfield announced that an employee at the Burlington County landfill who is responsible for accepting fee payments from trash haulers was charged yesterday with pocketing more than $650 in cash last year.

Craig Schoenberger, 47, of Cinnaminson, was charged by summons with one count of Theft by Unlawful Taking (Third Degree). An initial appearance will be scheduled soon in Superior Court. The case will then be prepared for presentation to a Burlington County Grand Jury for possible indictment.

The investigation revealed that Schoenberger, who worked as a weighmaster at the landfill, failed to accurately document the amount of solid waste being taken to the facility in an attempt to conceal the fact that he was skimming money from the fees paid by drivers. He is accused of stealing a total of $665.

The investigation was conducted by the BCPO Special Investigations Unit, with assistance from the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department. The lead investigator was BCPO Detective Timothy Van Fossen.

All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
