Chief Darren Anderson began his law enforcement career in 1996 with the New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission as a State Parole Officer. He then joined the New Castle County, Delaware, Police Department as a Police Officer where he was assigned to the Patrol Division. Chief Anderson’s law enforcement career returned to New Jersey when he was hired as a Detective with the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office in 2001.
As a Detective, Chief Anderson worked in the Sexual Assault/Child Abuse Unit, Major Crimes Unit and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2007 where he supervised the day to day operations of the Sexual Assault/Child Abuse Unit and the Major Crimes Unit while holding this rank. Chief Anderson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2011 where he oversaw the Operational Units within the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and again to Captain in 2013. As Captain of Detectives, he supervised all of the investigative Units within the office.
Chief Anderson was sworn in as Chief of Detectives on January 4, 2016, by Burlington County Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi and now oversees the 43 Detectives employed by the office. He has been an Instructor of Advanced Interview Techniques and other law enforcement topics since 2004. Chief Anderson possesses a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Justice from Trenton State College. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, 252nd Session, and the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Command and Leadership Program. Chief Anderson serves on the Executive Board of the Burlington County Chiefs of Police Association and is recognized by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police as an Accredited Chief Executive.
